On the Avenue of Despair, he came on like a parade, sudden and unannounced. He handed out smiles and shattered dreams. Sophie O'Brien stood on the sidewalk and it was inevitable that their eyes would meet.
He stopped suddenly and asked:
“What the hell is your name? What are your sweet sins? Have you ever daydreamed of living your dream?”
At first, she wasn’t sure he was talkin’ to her, but she was convinced by the fact that she was the only person on the Avenue of Despair.
He handed her a note. She hoped it was a phone number, some kind of contact, but she read a single line:
“Who cares if no one cares?”
